The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

d of e 2

The Duke of Edinburgh’s award is a programme that has been run at Langdon for many years. Its purpose is to develop self confidence, self reliance, team work and leadership skills. The students that get involved have to undertake a number of tasks to develop skills. The sections of the award are as follows

  • Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community.
  • Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities.
  • Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests.
  • Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad. For bronze, this is a weekend away doing roughly 15 km a day, based on a preplanned route.

They will need to complete two of the first three sections for 1 hour a week for 3 months and the other section for 6 months

There are many reasons that students take part in the DofE these include:

  • Improving chances to get into the best colleges
  • Making new friends
  • Building self confidence
  • Facing and beating a challenge
  • Learning new skills
  • Improved fitness
  • Seeing new parts of the country

Courses run through out the year and are available to students aged 14 and over, ask your Head of Learning for dates.
